If you’re new to the New Haven area, you may be unaware of everything that’s going on year-round. For residents of Aspen Glen, you’re just a 20-minute drive from everything New Haven has to offer. Below are some of our favorite festivals that occur annually.
New Haven, CT Year Round Festivities
This is the perfect event for anyone who is a foodie. Located on the historic Wharf waterfront, the New Haven Food Truck Festival and Dragon Boat Regatta are two popular summer festivals that usually occur around the same week in June. The food truck festival offers an array of New Haven Street food, entertainment, and fun for the whole family.
At the same time and place are the dragon boat races. This is a newcomer to the New Haven area, but has been a celebration in Chinese culture for over 900 years. 40 foot canoes are filled with 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steers-person as they row together side-by-side in this fun and exciting race. Paddlers young and old, big and small are all encouraged to get involved in this new annual boat regatta.
Riverfest 4th of July Celebration
Every Fourth of July there are live concerts on both sides of the river. You’ll also find food trucks with an assortment of different goodies to choose from, and of course fireworks starting at dusk. Pack up the whole family and bring them down to Great River Park, located in East Hartford to enjoy Connecticut’s largest fireworks display.
New Haven is home to some of the most haunted places in all of Connecticut, and Fright Haven is one of the most frightening of them all. One ticket gets you access to three different attractions spread over 20,000 square feet. Check out Dead End Manor to meet the vampires in attendance at the Halloween Ball. Then make your way over to the Carnival of Evil in 3D, with an array of crazed clowns jumping out that sure to keep you up at night. There are no age restrictions but an adult must accompany children under 14.
Taking place in November at the College Street Music Hall, over 60 breweries from all over the country show off the latest innovations in craft beers. From smaller local brewing companies like Aspetuck Brew Lab to larger breweries like Samuel Adams, ales, lagers, porters, and IPAs will all be represented at this festival. Your ticket lets you sample many of the 225 beers represented.
Geronimo Restaurant Group will have casual popular food available. While enjoying the afternoon discovering new brews, rock out to live music provide by The Soil & The Sun and OWEL. Proceeds from this event will benefit the New Haven Center for Performing Arts, Inc. This event is 21 and over.
